Locate the original box or packaging for the phone, and then look for the IMEI number on a sticker attached to the outside. The IMEI number is comprised of 15 digits, and may not be labeled. It usually appears near a bar code. Locate the original contract or receipt for the phone if you can't find the packaging. The IMEI number should be listed. I have two iPhones (both 5S), and neither have the serial number (or any other info) printed or engraved on the SIM tray. There are a number of ways to locate your iPhone's MEID and IMEI numbers. The Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) is a serial number introduced in the mid-2000s to replace Electronic Serial Numbers (ESNs), which were exhausted by November 2008. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, on the other hand, is used by your service provider to verify and feed the appropriate data signal to your phone. Access the iPhone's 'About' Screen

Launch 'Settings' from your Home screen.

View your IMEI and MEID information, and then press 'Home' to exit.

Connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable. Allow iTunes to automatically launch.

Select your iPhone from the list of available devices, and select the 'Summary' tab.

Click on the 'Phone Number' field to be provided with additional device information, including the MEID and IMEI.

Eject your device from iTunes to safely remove it from the connection to your computer.

Launch iTunes on your computer.

Open 'Preferences.' To do this on a Mac, select 'iTunes' and then 'Preferences.' On a PC, choose 'Edit' and then 'Preferences.'

Select the 'Devices' tab. Hover your mouse over a backup to display the device's serial number, IMEI, MEID and assigned phone number.

There are multiple reasons you might need to obtain the IMEI number of your phone. It is equivalent to the serial number and it identifies the make and model of device you own. You may need to give this information to your insurance company to prove you owned the phone, you may need it to validate your warranty with the manufacturer or you may need for personal reasons. There are several ways to obtain the IMEI number without the phone.
Step 1
Look for the packaging box for the phone. The IMEI is printed on the outside of every box to help a sales rep expedite the process of setting up your wireless account.
Step 2
Find the contract you signed when you purchased the phone. If you did not sign a contract, look for the sales receipt for the phone. If you purchased it from a wireless dealer, the IMEI of the device is on the contract and/or receipt. This allows you provider to track warranty claims.
Step 3
Check your online account. Every major wireless provider offers you the ability to set up an online account to check your plan details, usage and gain assistance with better understanding how to use your device. The website also lists the type of device and the IMEI number associated with your account.
Contact customer care. They maintain warranty records for every device you purchase. Advise the representative what model of phone you have and they can provide you with the IMEI number.
